| I was proud of this bird at the time of its completion. I had followed a painting guide to the best of my ability. My mentor had said nothing regarding the colour of the back, scaps or primaries. I thought I was good to go to competition. I was good to go, the bird was not. At competition my folly was pointed out in no uncertain terms. Why had I not sought out and used a specimen? There had been a lot of work done . For competition, all was negated by the incorrect painting. A lesson was absorbed and my efforts altered. I point this out so that readers can learn from my mistake. |
